Dr. Dolittle may talk to the animals, but
no one communicates with birds quite like Deb Vickerman. Her neighbors
call her "Mrs. Parrot Head" because of her unique hat and because of her
unusual ability to communicate with birds. She is often seen walking
in the neighborhood with her parrot hat, just whistling away and talking
to the birds. While many people whistle while they walk, Deb has
the ability to actually communicate with the birds....They come right up
to her and sit on her shoulder (or on her hat) and then Deb and the birds
whistle back and forth. Her neighbor, Uncle Remus told us, ''it is
not unusual to see a blue bird on her shoulder.... it's the truth...it's
natural....everything is satisfactual...." Then he started singing
words that didn't make a lot of sense to your faithful reporter....something
like "Zip a dee doo da...zip a dee a". (I just report the facts...
I don't explain them.)
There are those that are concerned about
her eccentric ways, but Deb explains, "I know that people think I'm strange
for talking to the birds... but sometimes I just have to talk... and when
there's nobody else to listen....I can always talk to the birds. They just
seem to understand me....and never tire of listening."
