With the success of "Survivor II", reality
TV is changing the landscape of Television. Reality shows are popping
up everywhere, even Christian TV. Paul Crouch recently announced
"Christian TV Ministry Survival" a Survivor-like program where popular
Christian Televangelists will be stranded in a remote location and forced
to survive the elements and each other. In the exciting conclusion
of each program one televangelist will be voted off the network.
When searching for a location, it was determined
that Hard Times Farms near Tracy, MN would
be the perfect winter location for the series. Each televangelist
will have to brave the sub-zero temperatures and windchills of the Minnesota
prairie as they seek to outpreach, outsing and outfundraise each other
in attempts to be come the ultimate Survivor who will become the sole host
of the Praise the Lord Program for one whole year.
Each member was allowed one personal item.
Robert Schuller tried to bring the Crystal Cathedral as his, but it just
wasn't possible. Kenneth Copeland chose to bring his jet; Dino brought
a grand piano;Jan Crouch brought a pink wig.
One of the twists
in this show is that each televangelist is forced to go through Roy Syverson's
Crisis Management Seminars. Part of that training of course includes
working with Roy around the farm. This was determined to be one of
the most difficult parts of the whole Survival experience.

Forced to bunk in
the hayloft of the old red barn, tensions between the survivors have already
been seen. When Rod Parsley saw the sagging rafters in the barn,
he said something about "repairing the breach"...and Jesse DuPlantis told
him: "I know something about breach...I was born Breach....I don't want
you getting anywhere near my breach." |
At which point,
Marilyn Hickey said, " Did you say beach? I would really like to
be on the beach right now, it must 50 below zero.....brrrr it's cold."
At that point John Hagee began a discourse on how the cold weather must
be some sign of the end times and Hal Lindsey of course agreed with John
on that point....but after a long discussion they got into a major disagreement
on whether the ashes of the red heifer had been found yet or not.
Charles Stanley heard the upraised voices and ran over to mediate...."Listen....Listen....Listen",
he said, but they refused to listen.
About that time,
Roy Syverson, who is the host of the Series, invited the whole group to
participate in their first immunity challenge. The person who wins
cannot be voted off the network that week. He explained the game
to them. They each had 15 minutes and a pitchfork. The televangelist
who shoveled the most manure into the spreader at the end of the 15 minutes
would be the winner. When it was all said and done, there was a lot
more said than done...but John Jacobs of the Power Team was the clear winner.
Benny Hinn was disqualified from this round, because he kept touching the
others and he had such a powerful anointing that they would fall to the
ground and weren't able to finish the competition. It was thought
that this was an unfair advantage.
Stay tuned next week
to see who is voted off the network in the next edition of "Ministry Survival"!
