Island, Feb. 17, 2000
The Hillside Quiz Teams were on their way
back from Richmond on a three hour drive, a three hour drive. The
weather started getting rough the tiny van was tossed. If not for
the courage of Mike Stebner's Crew, The Church Van would be lost... The
Church Van would be lost. The Van's aground on the shore of this uncharted
desert Isle...
The unexpected turn of events led Mike
and his wife to declare this trip a missions trip. They began searching
the Isle for any signs of life....Tara kept having this eerie feeling that
she'd been there before... something seemed familiar... then it hit her....
a coconut that is, from a nearby palm tree.... she ran around the island
in an uncontrollable fit... "The sky is falling....the sky is falling"
(ocassionally interrupting that statement with a noise that can only be
described as a chicken sqwauking).
Meanwhile, Gwen. who has always had an
irresistable crush on the Professor ever since that last Nick at Night
Gilligan's Island Maranthon... found the huts and confirmed her suspicions
that indeed this was Gilligan's Island.... the home of her hero... the
professor. Just as she was about to enter one of the huts, she was
tackled by the force of Tara's "Sky is falling" Crusade and instead of
entering the door, she went right through the bamboo wall of the professor's
hut....
Initially the professor was annoyed...
Gwen had broken his newest invention... A version of the Ronco Slice-a-Matic
made of bamboo and coconut, of course. But imagine his excitement
as he saw Gwen... He ran out of the hut... and began shouting at the top
of his lungs.... "We're Rescued... We're Rescued".
Meanwhile, Nick and Chilly, were exploring
in another location and came across some ancient ruins from a lost civilization.
They determined that it must have been the alamo... and immediately...
they both ran off holding their ears and crying at the top of their lungs:
"Remember the Alamo!!! Remember the Alamo"
Hearing all this noise, Rochelle got the
rest of the Hillside Quizzers to join her in a series of annoying cheers...
Eventually the crowd grew so weary of saying "Jump for Jesus" and "Leap
for the Lord".. that they all joined in some silly Banana ritual that is
used to annoy quizmasters at nearly every hillside-called time out.
Rochelle, however, felt led to continue her cheering and went out seeking
a more favorable audience. So she skipped off into the distance crying,
"Jump for Jesus.... Jump for Jesus".
Hearing all the racket, the whole gang
from Gilligan's Island ran to the lagoon to find the quizzers all involved
in the banana song/ritual. Immediately repulsed by the song, it took
them a few moments to realize that this was a group of human beings...and
while it sounded more like a group of natives chanting... maybe they were
indeed from civilization..... could it be the moment of their rescue?
Tune in again next week for the conclusion
of our twisted tale....
